Cycling Switzerland: Geneva to Céligny loop

Céligny is another village on the confines of Geneva. Also, it is an exclave with the State of Vaud and France. Most of Céligny is agricultural, and its quiet setting has attracted a fair number of celebrities; among others are Alister MacLean and Richard Burton. The latter had a property just beside the Michelin star restaurant called “Buffet de la gare.” The restaurant is located just across the train station, as its name suggests. And, the property has a turn of the century feel and a beautiful garden terrace beside a stream.

The cycling tour that I present is a circular one .

  1. The first leg will start from the center of Geneva onwards to the National Road.
  2. As you reach Chambesy just follow cycling route number 50 or use KML and GPX path on your phone for turn by turn directions
  3. You’ll be passing by Collex the forest of Versoix, Chavannes des Bois in Canton Vaud, and Chavannes des Bogis.
  4. After Chavanne des Bogis, watch out for the Chateau de Bossey sign. You’ll be getting out of cycling route 50 once you turn right to the direction of the Chateau,
  5. From the Chateau de Bossy take the out-road path going South and left at the end of the trail.
  6. Further on, you’ll see Céligny station and the “Buffet de la gare.” Perhaps the latter is an excellent place for lunch. Otherwise, you could head towards the lake for a picnic.
  7. The way to Geneva on this itinerary is through the National road, which is flat and so, it’ll be faster going back.

To get an idea of the places you will see, I have also placed some picture markers on the map.
